Even though we do not finish our houses to a complete, or move in stage, the following is a list of items you will want to consider when designing your home. Significant time and energy can be saved by making these choices ahead of time and thereby avoiding any interruptions in the construction of your new home.  Making these decisions ahead of time will speed up the ordering process.

  1. Floor plan size and layout
  2. Number of bedrooms and bathrooms
  3. Sizes of rooms
  4. Window sizes, style or added options (ie: grills, rounded tops)
  5. Exterior roof line design (ie: gable ends, clipped gables, cottage roof)
  6. Interior roof line design (ie: flat or vaulted)
  7. Exterior finishing options (ie: vinyl, hardboard, metal siding)
  8. Plumbing
    • shower, shower/tub combo, jacuzzi tubs, etc.
    • dishwasher placement
    • sink types and tap styles
  9. Electrical
    • electrical outlet placement
    • cable & telephone outlet placement
    • 200 amp electrical box placement
    • central vacuum
    • lighting fixture placement
  1. Interior finishing options
    • painted, oak or maple baseboards and casings
    • door styles & hinge color
    • railings for stairs
    • door knob styles and colours
    • paint colours
  2. Kitchen cabinet layout and type (ie: melamine, oak, maple, etc).
  3. Kitchen cabinet door design and hardware type
  4. Cabinet options (ie: under counter lighting, eating area, pantry)
  5. Bathroom vanity layout and type
  6. Bathroom vanity door design and hardware type
  7. Counter top laminates
  8. Floor covering (ie: carpet/lino/laminate)
  9. Lighting fixtures
